Lexington, Mass., October 28, 2008 – Mass High Tech, The Journal of New England Technology, has named Rob Malan to its list of 2008 All-Stars. Now in its 13th year, the Mass High Tech All-Stars award recognizes the leaders in New England’s innovation economy. Rob Malan, founder and chief technology officer of Arbor Networks, was one of more than 200 people nominated for consideration in 14 sectors, and has been selected as the top candidate for Networking. Malan, whose thesis work at the University of Michigan formed the basis for Arbor Networks' technology, is an inventor on many of the company's patents and his work has become a primary driver in helping to resolve some of the most critical networking and security challenges facing service providers today. As co-founder and CTO of Arbor Networks, Malan plays an integral role in the evolution of this highly successful private company from his groundbreaking research to his ability to encourage collaboration across Internet service providers. Under his leadership and direction, Arbor has become a trusted partner of the Internet Service Provider (ISP) community, developing numerous, innovative industry initiatives that require cross-provider collaboration and sharing of anonymized data. To date, Arbor has successfully launched the Fingerprint Sharing Alliance (FSA), a first-of-its-kind industry initiative aimed at helping network operators share Internet attack information automatically; the annual Worldwide Infrastructure Security Report, which provides practical data to network operators so that they can make informed decisions about the use of network security technology to protect their mission-critical infrastructure; and ATLAS, the world’s first globally scoped threat analysis network, which uses technology embedded in the world’s largest ISP networks to sense and report on comprehensive worldwide threat intelligence.
“Rob Malan is without question one of the most influential and most promising network and security technologists of our generation,” said Dr. Farnam Jahanian, co-founder and chairman of Arbor Networks. “Rob's influence and impact on our industry is best characterized by his unique ability to combine deep knowledge of Internet protocols and architectures with broad understanding of market and technology constraints.” An awards celebration and networking reception will be held on October 30, 2008 at The Charles Hotel in Cambridge, MA.
