Korea's Dacom Deploys Arbor Networks' Peakflow SP to Protect and Streamline its Network

Arbor Networks and INNET partner to deliver network integrity solutions to the Korean market

LEXINGTON, MA, February 18, 2004 - Arbor Networks™, the leading provider of network integrity systems, today announced that Dacom, one of the largest communications service providers in Korea, has deployed Arbor’s Peakflow SP to protect its network from escalating security and operational threats.

Operating the largest Internet backbone in Korea, Dacom provides Internet service to over three million subscribers nationwide. As the operator of a complex network, Dacom faces a wide range of security and operational challenges: zero-day attacks such as distributed denial of service (DDoS) and network worms, as well as routing exploits, peering instability and capacity planning issues. Particularly vexing has been the onslaught of zero-day worms over the past year. With the highest penetration of broadband in the world, Korea was particularly hard hit by SQL Slammer and the worms that followed. In response to the rising worm threat, Dacom sought better protection for its network.

“It was our urgent need to defend our network from zero-day worms that led us to Arbor,” said BC Choi, Dacom’s Director of Network Planning. “Once we deployed Peakflow SP’s DoS module and gained real-time awareness of behavior across our whole network, we wanted to apply this perspective to address not only our security challenges, but also our operational challenges. Now we use Peakflow’s Traffic module to analyze our international peering relationships and are using what we learn to operate a more streamlined and efficient network.”

Arbor and INNET Partner to Deliver Innovative Solutions to Korean Service Providers
To meet the strong demand for its solutions in Korea, Arbor has established a distribution relationship with INNET Co. Ltd. (KOSDAQ: 41450.KQ), South Korea’s top network reseller and integration firm. INNET led Dacom’s deployment of Peakflow SP and will provide ongoing Peakflow support to the company.

Since establishing its Asia Pacific operations in June 2003, Arbor has gained significant momentum in the region, winning the business of several leading providers in Korea, China, Malaysia and Taiwan. In addition to these new customers, several more leading service providers throughout the region are currently engaged in evaluations of Arbor’s Peakflow SP.

Peakflow SP is the most broadly installed network integrity system in the world, with 40 customers that include service providers and MSOs in North America, Europe and Asia Pacific, the U.S. Department of Defense and several Fortune 500 companies. Built upon Arbor’s Peakflow™ platform -- an architecture for network-wide data collection, analysis and anomaly detection -- Peakflow SP provides accurate, real-time awareness of behavior across the entire network, equipping network operators to better secure and more effectively manage their infrastructure.

“Leading service providers like Dacom are focused not only on shoring up security, but also on optimizing bandwidth, reducing costs and maintaining service levels,” said Tom Schuster, senior vice president of sales and marketing at Arbor. “By equipping its network with Peakflow, Dacom is gaining an unprecedented level of visibility into the behavior of its network. Armed with this information, Dacom is running a more secure and more efficient network for its customers.”
