LEXINGTON, Mass., August 4, 2004— Arbor Networks, a leader in network integrity systems, today announced that EarthLink (NASDAQ: ELNK), a leading national Internet Service Provider, has chosen Arbor’s Peakflow SP to analyze its transit, peering, and internal traffic. EarthLink will use Peakflow SP for capacity planning on its nationwide network to make intelligent peering decisions, which can reduce operating costs.
Peakflow SP’s ability to provide traffic analysis will help EarthLink track data levels between EarthLink’s points of presence (POPs). The traffic reports also will help EarthLink with its capacity planning, allowing EarthLink to better understand where traffic is destined, and enabling traffic engineers to make smart peering decisions that can reduce operating costs.
“At EarthLink, we are dedicated to providing outstanding customer service, innovative dial-up and high-speed services to our customers,” said Greg Collins, director of network engineering and operations, EarthLink. “By using Peakflow SP, we are able to expand our traffic monitoring and planning analysis, which will ultimately mean better service for our customers.”
By modeling the network with Peakflow SP, EarthLink can now more accurately predict the impact of network growth as well as proposed changes, such as the rollout of new applications and services. Peakflow SP’s analysis helps EarthLink operators identify possible network changes that can reduce network load, bypass hotspots, and reduce costs. With the ability to simulate network traffic to understand network behavior, EarthLink can select the best possible transit and peering relationships over the long-term.
“EarthLink has earned its reputation as a leading, innovative ISP,” said Tom Schuster, Arbor’s vice president of sales and marketing. “We’re pleased EarthLink chose Peakflow SP to address operational and peering challenges. Leading providers are using Peakflow SP’s traffic analysis to engineer their networks to support better peering agreements and additional VoIP and IP/TV services.”
Peakflow SP is the most broadly deployed network integrity system in the world, with over 80 customers that include the leading service providers and MSOs in North America, Europe and Asia.
