LEXINGTON, Mass., November 30, 2004— Arbor Networks, a leader in network integrity systems, today announced that CableLabs®, a non-profit cable telecommunications research and development consortium, has deployed Arbor’s Peakflow® SP network integrity platform. Peakflow SP is helping CableLabs with network-wide traffic and routing management as well as defending CableLabs’ network from distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks, network worms and other anomalous events. “Maintaining a secure environment for our visiting members, staff, engineers and certification environments is of the utmost importance,” said Dave Clark, director of network engineering at CableLabs. “Arbor’s Peakflow SP gives us total visibility into our network so we can understand how to best manage our traffic. Peakflow also makes it easy to identify anomalous events on the network so we can respond swiftly and appropriately.” Arbor’s Peakflow network integrity system protects CableLabs from zero-day worms and DDoS attacks as well as routing instability and other operational vulnerabilities. Using Peakflow’s traffic analysis capabilities, CableLabs has strengthened its capacity planning program by using Peakflow SP to maximize visibility into the network, better understand traffic destinations, and make smart peering decisions to reduce operating costs. “CableLabs has a stellar reputation for helping the cable industry deploy new technologies to meet cable companies’ growing business objectives,” said Scott Prouty, vice president of sales at Arbor Networks. “We’re pleased that CableLabs chose Peakflow SP to address operational and peering challenges. Now, CableLabs can detect, analyze, and mitigate network outages and inefficiencies, whether they stem from an attack, misconfiguration, misuse, or a long-term change in network use.” Peakflow SP transforms business planning and operations through its complete view of network-wide traffic and routing data. Peakflow SP learns normal traffic and routing behavior across hundreds of routers and thousands of interfaces. Using this information, Peakflow SP notifies cable operators of significant changes to the network, whether they are the result of DoS attacks, worms, misconfiguration, equipment failure, or long-term shifts in traffic patterns. With Peakflow SP, cable operators can more accurately predict the impact of network growth as well as proposed changes, including the rollout of new applications and services.
